Product Description
A collection of works from the greatest artists of the Impressionist movement is complemented by information on the history and ideology of Impressionism Organized like branches of a tree, this book is first divided into three main sections that explore the beginnings of Impressionism, its zenith achievements, and post-Impressionism. It is chronologically loose, with each main section subdivided into discrete units headlined on the page as vignettes of the artists and their paintings. Quotations by significant figures associated with Impressionism appear in the margins. The text is fully illustrated with over 150 color reproductions containing key images associated with the artist in question. Many of the plates spotlight works from the collection of the Musee d’Orsay in Paris. Some academic works are included for comparison, and artists who presaged the Impressionists, such as Boudin and Jongkind, are represented as well.
